It's been a long day...

But it's going to be a short night.

Yup. It's the summer solstice. Some people go to Stonehenge. Others have a rave by the seaside. I went out and took a few piccies.

A place for everything, and everything on the floor

I'm tidying my computer room, with the computer switched on.

It's taking quite a while.

The debris, ordered by volume, and possibly by weight seems to consist mainly of,
  • Books. - In all shapes and sizes, ranging from the small and squat, "The DUMPY Book of AIRCRAFT & THE AIR" to a block of ten paperbacks that I've not yet got around to taking out of its' cellophane.
  • Clothes. Jackets, trousers, socks. Especially socks.
  • Optical Media. - CD's, DVDs, games, cases and boxes.
  • Wires and cables. Computer to camera, computer to ipod, mains to adaotor, adaptor to PC,HiFi,Monitor,Fan Heater, Floor lamp, Effects unit, housephone baseset, PC to mouse. PC to monitor. PC to keyboard. PC to HiFi. HiFi to speakers. PC to headphones.
  • Paper. - Reciepts, invoices, scraps, envelopes, notepads, post-it notes.
  • Packaging. - Rizla packets, beer bottles, bottle caps, padded envelopes, boxes.
  • Pens, pencils, screwdrivers, paintbrushes. - Tools, I suppose.
  • Organic residues. - Dust, nail clippings, dead leaves, tobacco, crumbs and other foodstuffs.
Somehow all this stuff has to be put into racks, cupboards, bags, boxes, bins, hoover bags and washing baskets.

I suspect that posting banal blog posts may be procrastination.

Its an illusion

This is an incredibly important video. It took me a couple of watches before I really started to understand it. The first time, I thought it was getting bogged down in semantics, particularly near the start. The second time around, I reaslised just how important the words and their meanings actually are. This is not tinfoil hat stuff. It all checks out, and you can check it out for yourself quite easily, but how this information can be interpreted, and to what ends, is something that requires a lot of thought.

( tried to upload it to here, but it's too big)

You can watch the original HERE

I can't help thinking that although the analysis is an absolute eye-opener, the conclusions leave something to be desired. If nobody paid their taxes, there'd be no schools or hospitals, except for those that could afford it, for example.

Wanted! 2 litre clear plastic bottles!

I want to make a greenhouse!

Probably need about 1500 of them. Currently have about 3.

today's post was brought to you by the letter "J"

Not found Sesame Street yet. But I have just stumbled upon the letter J. I'm surprised I haven't seen it earlier, becasue I've been there in the flesh.

It's in Heswall fields, between Lower Heswall and Thurstaston, and Bren used it to site some artwork (textiles left in hedgerows, and then photographs taken at sporadic intervals to document their dissolution.)

perfect!

Been teaching people how to drive for about 5 years now, and occasionally, still, things happen for the first time.

A few weeks ago, I had my first ever "walkback"

A walkback happens when a driving test is abandoned, and they can happen for a number of reasons. If the test candidate is a danger to the public, the examiner can terminate the test. Or the car could break down. In this case, my pupil was extremely nervous, and when she stalled at a roundabout, she was panicking too much to continue to drive.

In these cases, the car is left and locked. Pupil and examiner make their way back to the test centre on foot (or if it's a long way from the centre, the examiner will phone and get another examiner to pick them up. When they get back, the instructor has to make his or her own way back to the car to pick it up.

Like I said, it's only ever happened to me once.

Today though I had an altogether more pleasant first.

My pupil passed with no faults. Not one. Everything he did on the test was faultless.

I can take little credit for this. I only met this guy twice. Once a couple of months ago, where I did an assessment drive, and today, I took him out for a pre-test session. He'd passed his test once before, but lost his license for driving without insurance. So I had very little to do to get him through. Just a watching brief.

Still, nice all the same to have had one.
