Unrest in Birkenhead

So it says on the BBC's online website.

Big deal. There's nothing that unusual about the odd car getting torched or an occasional shop window being smashed.

I suppose there's a half arsed copycat element going on, but it's like the last tinkle of a giant bell falling from its campanile.

The bigger picture is worrying though. What will happen when the energy crisis really kicks in? All these people who feel entitled to do what the fuck they like. Fortunately there have been opposite forces at work too, like the Turkish shopkeepers who ganged together and chased away a band of looters, or the social network coordinated cleanup squads that have been making good at least some of the damage.

If we're going to get through this it can only be by working for and with each other.
